Return (Fu)
Symbolizes recovery, return, rebirth of hope and the beginning of a new, better cycle.
6-Line Structure
I Ching Interpretation
Symbolism & Structure
The Phuc hexagram has the Lower trigram being Chan (Thunder/Dong), the Upper trigram being Khon (Earth/Nhuan). After the Bac hexagram (5 Yin encroaching on 1 Yang), in the Phuc hexagram, the first Yang line reappears in the lowest position (hao 1). This is the statue of 'Nhat Duong Sinh', light begins to return in the midst of darkness. Thunder on the ground represents energy accumulating, preparing for a future explosion.
Philosophy & Virtues
The philosophy of the Fu hexagram teaches: 'Fu, hanh. Entering and exiting without disability, by coming back without suffering'. The return brings happiness. The law of the universe is the cycle: day passes, night comes, winter passes, spring comes. The Fu hexagram emphasizes self-enlightenment: when you know you are going the wrong way, turn back immediately (Bat Vien Phu). Recovery needs to happen naturally and cannot be rushed. 'Seven days later' (seven days will return) refers to the cyclical nature of time.
Line by Line Analysis
1st Line
Hao So Cuu: 'No long-term recovery, no regrets, pure sand'. Come back when you haven't gone too far. Recognizing mistakes early and correcting them immediately will bring great blessings, with no regrets. This is the main line of the hexagram.
2nd Line
Hao Luc Nhi: 'Retirement, sand'. Back in a nice, happy way. When I see a good person (moment 1) coming back, I also go with him. Recovery brings good news.
3rd Line
Hao Luc Tam: 'Qin serves, tears are bound'. Turn around, go wrong again, then come back again (high frequency). Although it's a bit dangerous due to lack of consistency, if you still know how to return in the end, it's not a big mistake.
4th Line
Hao Luc Tu: 'The middle action is single-minded'. Walking in the middle of a crowd (of petty people) but alone choosing to return to the right path. Demonstrate high personal bravery and awareness.
5th Line
Hao Luc Ngu: 'Submit, no regrets'. Come back kindly and sincerely. Deep self-reflection helps you gain tolerance and no regrets.
6th Line
Hao Thuong Luc: 'Bewitching, cruel, causing disaster'. I'm confused and don't know the way back. When the time for recovery has passed and you still persist in going deeper into the darkness, the outcome will be a disaster.
General Discussion
The Phuc hexagram reminds: Opportunity always comes back, but only those who are awake can recognize and grasp it.

The biggest risk is that 'horses get used to old ways' (moment 3). Recovering without changing your thinking will soon fall back into the Uncle hexagram.
Strategy
If you do the opposite (Stubbornly moving towards darkness): You will miss the turning point of destiny. The Phuc hexagram teaches that turning back is the shore, and sometimes stepping back is the fastest way to move forward.
