I Ching Interpretation

Symbolism & Structure

The Bac hexagram has the Lower trigram as Khon (Earth/Nhuan), the Upper trigram as Can (Son/Ngu rest). The image of the hexagram with 5 Yin lines below is pushing the single Yang line to the top position (line 6). This is the statue of 'the virtuous leader, the martyr is eliminated' (the bad guys are getting stronger, the good guys are pushed to the corner). Mountains originally depended on the land, but now the land is eroding, causing the mountains to collapse. This is an irresistible period of decline.

Philosophy & Virtues

The philosophy of the Uncle Ho hexagram teaches: 'Uncle, no matter what, you will wander'. When times are at a decline, trying to move forward or change the situation will only result in miserable failure. The gentleman at this time must understand the law of 'when prosperity inevitably falls', accept loss to preserve the core. The word Bac also means to peel and carve. Sometimes collapse is necessary to remove the rotten parts, preparing for a rebirth in the next Phuc hexagram.

Line by Line Analysis

1st Line

Hao So Luc: 'Uncle is willing to treat the way, persevere, fierce'. Carved from the foot of the bed. Evil begins to infiltrate from the lowest foundations. If we are not careful, collapse is only a matter of time.

2nd Line

Hao Luc Nhi: 'You are ready to reason, diligent, and fierce'. Carved to the edge of the bed. The threat was getting closer, encroaching on vital parts. The danger is clearly present.

3rd Line

Hao Luc Tam: 'Uncle's uncle is useless'. Even though he is in a group of petty people, he still holds his heart towards the gentleman (line 6). Separation from evil keeps you blameless.

4th Line

Hao Luc Tu: 'Uncle is willing to treat the husband, is bad'. Cut all the way to the bed, touching the skin. Disaster has come close to home, there is no place to hide.

5th Line

Hao Luc Ngu: 'If you eat fish, you will be favored by the palace and people, there will be no disadvantage'. Like stringing fish, thanks to the guidance of the palace people, they are favored. Knowing how to obey the rules, knowing how to find the right leader in times of chaos will help you escape danger.

6th Line

Hao Thuong Cuu: 'The master is not real, the gentleman gets the surplus, the villain falls away'. Large fruit cannot be eaten. A gentleman who maintains his core will have a vehicle to continue, but a petty person will destroy his own house. This is the hexagram's only hope.

General Discussion

Uncle Ho's hexagram reminds: When darkness covers, the smartest thing is to keep the 'seed' (division 6) to wait for spring.
