6-Line Structure
I Ching Interpretation
Symbolism & Structure
The Minh Di hexagram has the Lower trigram being Ly (Fire/Clearness), the Upper trigram being Khon (Earth/Richness). The light (Ly) is obscured by thick soil (Khon). In complete contrast to the Tan hexagram, here the wise person is placed under the control of the dark person or harsh circumstances. This is a statue of 'wounded wisdom'.
Philosophy & Virtues
The philosophy of the Minh Di hexagram teaches: 'Minh Di, profit and loss'. In times of trouble and difficulty, you must maintain integrity (chastity) to benefit. The word 'Di' means both injury and destruction. The gentleman in the Minh Di period had to learn from the example of Chu Van Vuong or Co Tu: appear foolish on the outside, endure humiliation but on the inside still maintain strong will and insight. 'Using Nhui Nhi Minh' (Using darkness to keep the light) is the pinnacle of survival wisdom.
Line by Line Analysis
1st Line
Hao So Cuu: 'Minh Di Vu Phi, Loong Ky Wing. A gentleman acts in vain, three days without food'. The flying bird is injured in the wing. Had to flee so quickly that I didn't eat for three days. When disaster is just budding, retreat decisively even if it means suffering.
2nd Line
Hao Luc Nhi: 'Minh Di, di vu ta co, use to save the horse and the sand'. Light was injured in his left thigh. Thanks to the use of strong horses, they were able to save him. Even though you are hurt, if you act quickly and have good means, you will still have good luck.
3rd Line
Hao Cuu Tam: 'Minh Di Vu south of the tower, great skill. Incapable of virginity'. Hunt to the south, capture the evil leader. This is the time to start counterattacking, but don't rush to change things right away. Need to persevere.
4th Line
Hao Luc Tu: 'Entering the witch leaves blessings, attaining enlightenment and divining the mind, and leaving the door of the temple'. Enter the left side of the abdomen, understand the evil person's mind and then exit. Understand the deadlock situation to find a way to retreat safely.
5th Line
Hao Luc Ngu: 'Co Tu Chi Minh Di, Loi Trinh'. Co Tu's lesson: Pretending to be crazy to avoid tyranny. Maintain a righteous heart amid the siege of evil armies. This is the key principle of wise patience.
6th Line
Hao Thuong Luc: 'If you don't know how to regret, first you will ascend to the Void Heaven, then you will enter the Void Land'. At first it was bright in the sky, then it fell to the dark earth. Warn the wicked, when their arrogance has reached the peak, they will completely collapse. The false light will be swallowed up by the real darkness.
General Discussion
