Symbolism & Structure

The Khiem hexagram has the Upper trigram as Khon (Earth/Nhuan), the Lower trigram as Can (Son/Nghrest). The image of a massive high mountain (Can) voluntarily placing itself under the vast ground (Khôn). This is a symbol of a person who has great talent and merit but never shows it off. The stability of the mountain combined with the tolerance of the land creates a complete virtue.

Philosophy & Virtues

The philosophy of the Khiem hexagram teaches: 'If you are humble, a gentleman will live together'. Humility leads to success; if a gentleman maintains his humility, only then will he have a good end result. The law of heaven and earth is 'ultimate things must oppose', what is too high will be leveled, what is low will be built up. A person who knows how to be humble is someone who follows the flow of the universe, so wherever he goes, he is helped and whatever he does is easy to achieve.

Line by Line Analysis

1st Line

Hao So Luc: 'Humble and humble gentleman, use great courtesy, good luck'. A gentleman is extremely humble. With this attitude, even if you have to cross a big river (extremely difficult), you will have luck.

2nd Line

Hao Luc Nhi: 'Minh humble, virgin sand'. The reputation of humility resonates far and wide. When humility comes from within and spreads outward, maintaining a righteous heart will receive natural blessings.

3rd Line

Hao Cuu Tam: 'Humble labor, a gentleman's friend, good luck'. Having great merit but still being humble. This is the main line of the hexagram, representing those who can do great things but regardless of their merits, the results will be perfect and trusted by the masses.

4th Line

Hao Luc Tu: 'No disadvantages, proud humility'. There is nothing wrong with developing humility. Even if you are in an intermediate position, if you know how to behave properly, everything will go smoothly.

5th Line

Hao Luc Ngu: 'Unfortunately unicorn, taking advantage of invasion and punishment, has no disadvantage'. Do not dominate your neighbors because of wealth. When necessary, you can use force to correct wrongs. Strength comes with humility and no one can stop you.

6th Line

Hao Thuong Luc: 'Minh Khiem, took advantage of the master to conquer the country'. Humility echoed everywhere. You can use soldiers to correct mistakes within the country (hamlet). Humility is not synonymous with weakness, but is the premise of righteous discipline.

The Humility Hexagram reminds: Arrogant people will be despised by heaven, and humble people will be protected by demons.
