Symbolism & Structure

The Du hexagram has the Lower trigram being Khon (Earth/Rich Thuan), the Upper trigram being Chan (Thunder/Dynamo). The power of thunder (initiation, action) rests on the docility of the earth. This is the image of a leader who knows how to follow the will of the people (Khôn) to raise troops or carry out major projects (Chan). The word 'Preparation' means both fun and preparation.

Philosophy & Virtues

The philosophy of the Hexagram of Prosperity teaches that: 'For the benefit of seeing, the master is the master'. During times of joy and excitement, it is very favorable to establish order or start big things. However, joy must be associated with integrity. If you have too much fun and indulge too much and forget about preparation, that joy is the beginning of disaster. The gentleman uses music and rituals to nourish the spirit but never forgets his primary duty.

Line by Line Analysis

1st Line

Hao So Luc: 'Mindful, fierce'. Showing off your joy or pride too soon. When you just have a little bit of success, rushing to show it off will lead to failure and hate.

2nd Line

Hao Luc Nhi: 'The realm of the stone, not the same day, pure sand'. Keep yourself steady like a rock, don't wait for the day to end before taking action. If you see a sign (whether good or bad), you should deal with it immediately, don't let joy blind you. This is the best hexagram.

3rd Line

Hao Luc Tam: 'Howl to repent, hold to repent'. Look up and wait for joy (flattery or relying on superiors). Passivity and flattery will bring regret. Need to move on your own.

4th Line

Hao Cuu Tu: 'Hesitant, great friend wins, doubtful thing equals hap簪'. Sow joy, achieve great results. Don't doubt, friends will gather around you. This is the only Yang line, the energy source of the entire hexagram.

5th Line

Hao Luc Ngu: 'Virginity, eternal immortality'. Maintain a steadfast heart in the midst of illness (smoldering difficulties), although tiring but not life-threatening. Warning about being surrounded by excessive entertainment of subordinates.

6th Line

Hao Thuong Luc: 'Minh Du Thanh, there is no end, there is no end'. Dark joy (excessive joy turns into confusion). But if you know how to change and wake up at the right time, you still won't make a mistake.

General Discussion

The Hexagram reminds: Joy is the driving force, but preparation (preparation) is what keeps the joy lasting.

If you do the opposite (Living melancholy, unprepared): You will lose the beginning of spring. The Reserve hexagram teaches that you must know how to enjoy joy at the right time to create energy for action, but absolutely must not lack 'Reserve'.
