I Ching Interpretation

Symbolism & Structure

The Dai Trang hexagram has the Lower trigram being Can (Thien/Cuong), and the Upper triangular being Chan (Thunder/Dong). The power of thunder is based on the solid foundation of heaven. The four Yang lines below are developing extremely strongly, pushing back the two weak Yin lines above. This is the state of 'Yang extreme prosperity'. However, too much power, if not properly directed, will become senseless violence.

Philosophy & Virtues

The philosophy of the Dai Trang hexagram teaches: 'Great Trang, benefit the virgin'. Great power is only beneficial when accompanied by integrity. When a gentleman is in a position of strength, he must 'disrespect physical ceremony' (if it is not a ceremony, then do not do it). The word Trang, in addition to meaning strong, also means 'stop' (page). When you have enough power to crush everything, choosing the right way to stop is the greatest expression of strength. Don't be aggressive like a goat ramming a fence.

Line by Line Analysis

1st Line

Hao So Cuu: 'Strong and brave, conquering and fierce, husband and wife'. The power lies only in the toes. If you are eager to advance immediately, you will encounter disaster. Must have faith and calmly wait for the right time.

2nd Line

Hao Cuu Nhi: 'Virgin sand'. It is good to maintain a strong heart. In the neutral position, strength is used in moderation, without excess. This is the most stable hexagram.

3rd Line

Hao Cuu Tam: 'The petty man uses his strength, the gentleman uses his net. Pure tears, dizzy emotions, return to strange enlightenment'. A petty person relies on strength, a gentleman relies on morality. Like a goat hitting a fence and getting its horn stuck. Warning that relying on power will lead to deadlock.

4th Line

Hao Cuu Tu: 'Virgin sand regrets, there is no decision to return, the blessing of great fortune is great'. Keeping the righteous path is good, no regrets. The hedge has been punctured, no longer stuck, the strength is like a large, sturdy vehicle axle. The most favorable period for action.

5th Line

Hao Luc Ngu: 'Praying for joy, no regrets'. Lose the goat in an easy place (don't use aggressive force anymore). Know how to let go of rigidity and use gentleness to handle work so you have no regrets.

6th Line

Hao Thuong Luc: 'If you are exposed to the sun, you can't retreat, you can't break, and you won't be able to move. 'Sand jam'. The goat rammed the fence again, unable to move forward or backward. The more you struggle, the more you suffer. If you know the hardships but wake up and sit still, that's good.
