The Well (Jing)
Symbolizes the well, a stable source of life, internal cultivation and unchanging values despite changes in external circumstances.
6-Line Structure
I Ching Interpretation
Symbolism & Structure
The Province hexagram has the Lower trigram as Ton (Feng/Wood/Nhuan), the Upper trigram as Kham (Water/Danger/Deep water). Image of a wooden barrel bringing water from deep to the ground. The well is a fixed place, people come and go, the village changes but the well does not change. This is a statue of a talented person who maintains morality to nurture society.
Philosophy & Virtues
The philosophy of the Province hexagram teaches that: 'If you change the hamlet, you will not be able to change the province. There will be no loss and no gain. In the future, you will not be able to return to the province.' The citadel can change, but the well cannot. The true value of a person lies in his or her own ability and morality, not dependent on external fame. However, if 'the will is low, the heron is exhausted, the will is shaken, the water is about to rise and the vase will break, which would be disastrous. The Province Hexagram emphasizes perseverance in cultivating until the final result is achieved.
Line by Line Analysis
1st Line
Hao So Luc: 'The province is not real, the former province is useless'. The muddy well is inedible, and the old well has no birds. Symbolizes a person who has talent but is neglected or refuses to improve, becoming useless.
2nd Line
Hao Cuu Nhi: 'The province is stupid, the currency is illegal'. The well flows out into cracks, only small fish can be raised, and the jar is punctured. Having talent but using it in the wrong place or lacking the means to do it, leading to a waste of resources.
3rd Line
Hao Cuu Tam: 'Be alert and eat food, set your heart and mind, be useful, and the king will be blessed with blessings'. A clean well that no one drinks from is truly heartbreaking. If we meet a wise ruler/leader, both we and they will be blessed.
4th Line
Hao Luc Tu: 'Stay awake, don't care'. The well is being rebuilt and the brick layer inside is being repaired. This is the stage of self-improvement and strengthening of internal strength. Make no mistake, it's a necessary preparation step.
5th Line
Hao Cuu Ngu: 'Soothing cold spring food'. The well is clear, the water is cold and cool, everyone can drink it. This is the period when talent and virtue reach maturity, bringing benefits to the community. Very good.
6th Line
Hao Thuong Luc: 'The awakening accepts all the things, but the husband and wife retain the sand'. Once the well is opened, don't cover it so everyone can use it. Keeping faith and generosity will bring the greatest blessings. Great sand.
General Discussion
The Provincial Hexagram reminds: Talent is like underground water, it must go through the process of digging, building and repairing (cultivating) to become a source of life for life.
Divination & Guidance
Work & Affairs
Don't look for opportunities far away. Take advantage of your available resources or internal strengths immediately. The result depends on how carefully you prepare (don't leave the vase broken at the last minute).
Morning Advice
A day to turn inside. Improve your personal skills or rearrange your work system. Stability and persistence will bring respect from colleagues.
Love & Relationships
Relationships need sincerity and depth like underground water. Don't chase after external flashes. Silent and sustained concern is the key to happiness.
Dau Nam
A year of consolidation and service. You will be a support for many people. Focus on improving your professional qualifications, fortune will find you like a person finding a well.
Career & Success
Your position is very solid if you have real talent. Don't worry about not being used (moment 3), the opportunity to shine is approaching (moment 5). Just keep doing your job well.
Wealth & Business
Stable and sustainable. Income comes from long-term jobs. Avoid 'cheating' projects. Invest in employee training or internal technology improvements.
Health & Well-being
Attention should be paid to diseases of the excretory system or diseases related to water sources. You should drink lots of water and keep your soul pure and cool.
Luu Y Dac Biet
When sowing the Province hexagram, remember: 'With natural musk, natural fragrance'. You don't need to run around looking for opportunities, as long as you are 'clear' and 'deep' enough, all good things will gather towards you.
Strategic Insights
Risk Analysis
The biggest risk is 'unfinished' (disappointment). Having talent but not using it, having a well but leaving it in mud (moat 1) or doing it at the last minute but failing due to lack of caution. Cultivation is a lifelong task and should not be neglected.
Strategy
If you do the opposite (Always change, don't keep the roots): You will be like a nomad without a water source, always tired and unstable. The Provincial Hexagram teaches that greatness lies in remaining steadfast in one's identity.
