I Ching Interpretation

Symbolism & Structure

The Hoan hexagram has the Lower trigram as Kham (Water/Danger), the Upper trigram as Ton (Feng/Wood/Nhuan). The wind blowing on the water dissolves the blockages in the flow. Image of a wooden boat (Ton) surfing on fierce waves (Kham). The word 'Huan' means to dissolve, not to lose but to release energy that is imprisoned in selfishness or misunderstanding.

Philosophy & Virtues

The philosophy of the Hoan hexagram teaches: 'Hoan, hanh, the king and false king have a temple, the advantage is great travel'. When people's hearts are scattered, the king must use spiritual faith (going to the temple) to gather people's hearts. This is the time to do great things (cross big rivers) to break the stagnation. The gentleman who meets the Hoan hexagram must 'enjoy the emperor, build a temple' (offer offerings to heaven, set up a shrine) to create a common spiritual fulcrum, using great righteousness to neutralize self-interest.

If you do the opposite (Doggedly maintain separation, selfish): You will suffocate in your own 'hole'. The Hoan hexagram teaches that circulation is the lifeblood.
