Symbolism & Structure

The Trung Phu hexagram has the Lower trigram being Doai (Trach/Joy), the Upper trigram being Ton (Phong/Nhuan). The hexagram structure has two Yin lines in the middle (3 and 4) and four Yang lines surrounding the outside. This image is like an entity with an empty heart (humility) but a solid exterior (steadfastness). The word 'Phu' means trust, and also means that the bird is incubating the egg with the warmth of its body - a sacred life connection.

Philosophy & Virtues

The philosophy of the Trung Phu hexagram teaches that: 'The Trung Phu, the fish station is auspicious, the benefits are great, the trinh benefits'. Sincerity to the point of being able to influence both pigs and fish (which are inherently difficult to control) can do anything well and overcome great obstacles. A gentleman who meets the Trung Phu hexagram must 'go to prison and postpone his death' (review prison sentences and give leniency to those who deserve to die). The greatest strength of a person is not power, but the sincerity that can penetrate into the hearts of others.

Line by Line Analysis

1st Line

Hao So Cuu: 'If you're stupid, you won't be able to love others'. It's good to keep your faith in yourself. If you let external things entice you, your soul will not be at peace. Sincerity must start from self-control.

2nd Line

Hao Cuu Nhi: 'The crane is in the dark, the dead are in trouble. I have a good title, my ears are beautiful. The crane chirped in the dark, and the baby birds followed. I have a cup of delicious wine and want to enjoy it with you. Expressing natural soul harmony, without showing off, people will still come to you.

3rd Line

Hao Luc Tam: 'Dac enemy, or co or beach, or khhap or ca'. Meeting opponents, sometimes they beat the drums, sometimes they stop, sometimes they cry, sometimes they sing. Due to unstable trust and psychological uncertainty, actions are confused and inconsistent.

4th Line

Hao Luc Tu: 'The moon is hopeless, the horse is windy, there is no coffin'. The moon is about to be full, the horse has lost its herd. Know how to give up small connections to move towards higher ideals (moment 5). Personal sacrifice for the greater good keeps you from making mistakes.

5th Line

Hao Cuu Ngu: 'A husband and wife are attached to each other, but there is no love'. There is sincere trust that is bound like a rope. Leaders use sincerity to unite people, creating an indivisible team. This is the main line of the hexagram.

6th Line

Hao Thuong Cuu: 'The cold sound shines in the sky, the virginity is fierce'. The sound of the rooster crowing echoed into the sky. Warning about showing off your trust with empty words. When the outer shell is larger than the inner substance, the outcome will be bad.

General Discussion

The Trung Phu hexagram reminds: Trust cannot be borrowed or forced. It must come from the warmth of your own heart.
